Include Keywords

This document will guide you through the keyword research process for one content silo, highlighting the importance of the process of using the Include feature on Ahrefs.

Example Keyword Research For a B2C Mobile App

DoNotPay  is a legal services chatbot funded by Peter Thiel and Andresen Horowitz.

DoNotPay has a feature that helps prisoners communicate with their loved ones, and DoNotPay wants to get in-front of their target audience across the entire search funnel.

In the next 10 minutes you will learn how we automate 500+ pages of keyword research with ClusterAi.

Getting started

Type in all of the variations for prison you can think of

Choosing your Main Keywords

Main keywords are your broad match keywords that describe the topic of keywords you want to rank for.

You can only search for up to 10 main keywords and still use the having same search term feature.

Remember: Go as broad as possible here, using terms that are going to be common to most searches.

In our use case, we are looking into the topic of prisoner communication, i.e. writing to prisoners and similar.

Therefore, our intake for main keywords will consist of: inmate, inmates, prison, prisoner, prisoners, prisons
You don't know how your target audience is searching. Try and add every variation of your main keyword.

Remember: Almost every main keyword will have some variations you should include. Here are some examples.

University / Universities / College / Colleges
Bike / Bikes / Bicycle / Bicycles
Manage / Managing / Manager / Managers
Truck / Trucks / Trucking / Freight / Freighters
Bets / Bet / Betting

Using Ahref's Include Keywords Feature

We found 1,500,000 variations of inmate, inmates, prison, prisoner, prisoners, prisons.

DoNotPay helps prisoners communicate with their loved ones, and many of these keywords are not relevant to the audience we want to get in-front of.

So we need to use Ahrefs Include Keyword feature so our list only contains our main keywords AND keywords that are relevant to our audience.

Here are the Include Keywords we used:

communication, letter, letters, message, messages, chat, chats, chatting, talk, talking, phone, phones, call, calling, calls, text, texting, texts, cellphone, cellphones, phone, phones, contact, contacting, contacts, write, writing, mail, package, packages, gift, gifts, send, sending, receive, receiving, care, caring, book, books

Remember: use every variation in your Include Keywords that you can think of, i.e. call, calling, calls

Remember: choose the Any word option instead of All words.

Using our Main Keyword + Include Keywords narrows our list down to 55,000 keywords.
Every single one of these keywords is being searched for by an audience DoNotPay can help.

Final Look

Now that we have a refined list of keywords, we can do another quick look and see if there are more terms to include.

Scroll through the pages looking for any keywords that were discovered, but are not in our Include Keywords.

In our case, things look awesome!

Exporting Your List

Our list contains 55,000 relevant keywords, but we may not need to export them all.

Why?

Because many of the keywords likely have 0 search volume.

Important: Why would you export as much as 55000 keywords if you don't need them all? We care about your budget! ClusterAi is usage based, eliminate keywords that don't add value.

Use the pagination at the bottom of Ahrefs to get to the part of the list where the volume goes down to zero.

In our case, this was page 100.

Important: If your export does not go down to zero, you risk leaving valuable keywords out of your ClusterAi groupings.

This means we need to export the first 5000 keywords.
Pro Tip: Each page contains 50 keywords. Page 10 = 500 keywords, page 100 = 5,000 keywords, etc.

Pro tip: instead of using the pagination at the bottom of Ahrefs, use the permalink in your browser to navigate pages faster.

Modify the variable after ?page=.

Let ClusterAi do the rest!

Your export is ready for upload - just submit it to  ClusterAi!
