How to earn a promotion

Whenever possible, Content Distribution prefers to promote from within. Most people in senior roles joined our organization as writers. Here are our metrics since 2019.

The best way to earn a promotion is to operate at a higher level than your title reflects. Learn more by evaluating yourself against Content Distribution's  Core Competencies .

We will evaluate the need for promotions every 12 months. We can accelerate this process if the need for a promotion arises before the 12-month deadline.

Roles we might prefer to hire externally for

Some roles we may prefer to hire externally for. Usually these roles will have a specific skill we don't believe we can internally develop to the level of competency we need today.

Examples: Web dev, analytics, technical SEO skills, recruiting

Situations we might lean towards hiring externally

Each time we promote a person, we must back-fill their role with someone else. If we are promoting someone from the editing team into another role, we actually have to backfill twice. We have to promote a writer to editor, and we have to hire a new writer, which means we have 3 important positions all in onboarding and training at the same time. We may opt to hire externally to reduce the number of people in onboarding and training from 3 to 1.
